Internal-External Inspiration and Motivation
We all have days where we feel down or overwhelmed.
Inspiration and motivation during these periods often needs to come from within.
You don't want to get out of bed and get moving but
you need to give yourself that internal push.
Everything feels like a huge effort or you are carrying around a huge weight.
Internal positive messages can help you cope with days like this.
Be aware of messages that drag you down further rather than pick you up and
inspire you to move forward.
Be aware of the internal tone that you take with yourself.
Are you harsh and critical or gentle, loving and patient?
Often the tone we take with ourselves comes from how we were treated when we were younger.
This is not about blame…but awareness that our prior experience can shape our current experience…if we allow it.
We have the power to change our tone and internal messages from harsh and critical to gentle, patient, loving and nurturing.
This can also apply to our reaction when others are harsh and critical we may become over-reactive or take their messages personally.
We have the power to use healthy interpersonal boundaries to detach from the other person's tone or critical message, receiving the message as a statement of their feedback or opinion rather than the "whole truth."
Awareness of personal triggers and the ability to cope with those triggers serves as a reminder to practice positive internal tone and messages as well as
healthy interpersonal boundaries.
External motivation can come from reaching out to friends and loved ones for support with healthy boundaries.
Nature can also be an inspiring external motivator.
Mindfully watching the birds eat from a birdfeeder by the window as you drink tea in the morning, petting your cat or dog, working in the garden, watching a sunset or walking in the woods inspire a sense of peace and tranquility.
Finding beauty in little things helps to put the down times in perspective.
Altruism, giving to others and finding a way to make a difference in the world also helps you to feel less isolated and overwhelmed.
Remember to stop and smell the flowers and appreciate this moment.
